Split leather is the subcutaneous part of the leather, traditionally called suede. When it is coated in pigments and embossed on a plaque (patron “hair cell” or other) it then becomes a “finished split” split leather. Often used to craft cheap cases or for the interior lining of wallets when thinner. It can also be used to craft buckle belts when the thickness allows it.
